Dan - we really are in uncharted territory this time around. The "conservatives" have led the biggest expansion of government power and budget since the new deal. Riddle me THAT one? Democrats talk about creating jobs with tax cuts which, by definition, means a continuation of the deficit economy.

And all it takes is for China to stop buying our paper, and then what?

Yes, all of them love more power. But who loves leadership and will solve these very real problems facing our country?!

To your point on the "haves", these big financial institutions don't really "have" anything besides worthless paper. They have gotten away from asset based business and leave the tax payer holding the bag. So no, I don't trust these financial-hooligans either!

Ed: I'm afraid that BOTH conservatives and liberals believe that the "haves" who are creating the jobs can no longer be trusted and that the group (Marx might call it the collective) is better off taking over. It's funny that the tension that you've described does not exist when it comes to what we are seeing happening this week on Wall Street. Those in power (both libs and cons) love more power. I think that George Orwell would scratch his head that it took 24 years longer than he expected.
